REDCap is a secure web platform for building and managing online databases and surveys. REDCap's streamlined process for rapidly creating and designing projects offers a vast array of tools that can be tailored to virtually any data collection strategy.
REDCap provides automated export procedures for seamless data downloads to Excel and common statistical packages (SPSS, SAS, Stata, R), as well as a built-in project calendar, a scheduling module, ad hoc reporting tools, and advanced features, such as branching logic, file uploading, and calculated fields.

Start a Project in 3 Steps
- Start on the Staging Environment system (create, develop, test) - must be on VPN
- To request VPN access, have your supervisor contact the ETSS Help Desk ent.servicedesk@ri.gov indicating the need to access the State of Rhode Island VPN.
- Complete this form to move your project from Staging --> Live
- Test one more time on the Live Environment, then move project to production
- Test the project one more time (some features do not pull from Staging)
- Go to "Project Setup", scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Move project to production"
- Data collection can now begin
- To make changes in production, click "Designer" --> "Draft Mode" and then after you make your changes click "Submit Changes for Review". Many changes are automatic. Changes that could affect existing data are reviewed by an administrator.
